Haimre Park And Chapel / Vorstellung

On the shore of the pond in Haimre park there is an exceptionally large neogothic style park pavilion of which relatively whole walls have been preserved. According to folkloric traditions the building was called the Chapel of Mohammed – the son of Haimre manor Alexander Uexküll built it for his Eastern sweetheart. It is thought that the time of construction was the end of the 18th century. The building was not used for religious purposes but due to the resemblance of the front side to a church and the Islamic symbol – the crescent moon – which was up there until 1960 the place was called a “church.” It is remarkable that in the manor park there is a well-preserved, partly restored ice cellar.
