The Telegraaf, November 2009
Telegraaf has the Baltic`s Top Sommelier
Congratulations to our Food & Beverage Manager Kristjan Peäske who was recently crowned Best Sommelier in the Baltic region. Kristjan took first place at the Baltic Sommelier Vana Tallinn Grand Prix 2009 competition in Riga on the 23rd and 24th of October. It was Kristjan’s second time to participate in the competition, and each time the world of wine becomes even more addictive for him. “The more I learn about wine,” he says. “The more I want to know.”
Silent Nights
Many believe winter is the most romantic season in Estonia. Horse hooves are no longer heard on the cobblestone, but the snow still falls as quietly as it has for centuries. Winter is the silent season, one for contemplation and relaxation.
To help you enjoy it, the Telegraaf offers our traditional Silent Nights package. Enjoy two nights accommodation in a double room, full breakfast in our Tchaikovsky Restaurant, and a welcome drink in the bar.
Available November 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010 (though not available December 30-January 2, 2010). Total price for two persons: €256.
Christmas at the Telegraaf
Those who celebrate Christmas in Tallinn never forget it, and many return again and again.
Enjoy three nights accommodation in a double room, full breakfast, coffee and cake on one afternoon of your choice, two Tallinn Cards (giving you 48-hour access to museums, tours, and other city sites), and even two Christmas gifts from Telegraaf’s mystery Santa. Finally, to make your holiday even more relaxing we include one spa treatment in the comfort of your room.
Ladies receive the exotic enriching milk bath, said to be the essence of Cleopatra’s bathing ritual and ideal for sensitive and dry skin. Men enjoy the warming ocean bath. This is a spray-dried fusion of maritime pine, rosemary essential oil, and mineral-rich algae and eases stressed joints, the neck and shoulders.
Package available December 1- December 30, 2009. Price per couple: €599
Christmas Dining!
And not only at Christmas time. From November 30th through January 10th enjoy our restaurant Tchaikovsky’s Christmas menu in Telegraaf’s dining room. Choose from three main courses, including pike quenelles, baked duck breast, or braised lamb. For dessert, the pumpkin tart with coffee ice cream is hard to resist. Call +372 6000 610 for reservations or email kristjan.peaske@telegraafhotel.com.
New Year`s Eve Gala Dinner
Celebrating New Year’s Eve at the Telegraaf has become a tradition for many, so if you’d like to join us this year, please do book early. This year’s menu features smoked scallops, pan-fried pigeon breast, oven-baked reindeer, plus Napoleon cake and petit fours. All this is accompanied by classical live symphonies performed by the Salon Trio.
The basic menu is €96 and includes a welcome glass of champagne. Our wine package (wine with each course, champagne at midnight, and a digestif) is €160.
And why not indulge yourself and stay the night after the meal? For reservations and enquiries call +372 6000 610 or email kristjan.peaske@telegraafhotel.com.
Dostoyevsky meets Tchaikovsky
Every year we organize a chefs’ exchange between culinary professionals in top restaurants in nearby countries. Last year, Estonian chefs changed places with Finnish chefs. This year, we’re trading places with the Russians.
In mid-October, Tchaikovsky’s Head Chef Pavel Djatškov went to St. Petersburg to the restaurant Dostoyevsky. Dostoyevsky’s cuisine—a blend of Russian and European cuisines—is somewhat similar to Tchaikovsky’s.
Dostoyevsky’s chef will travel to Tallinn to be with us in the springtime. We’ll keep you informed about his visit, since it’s always nice to taste the different flavors of the region and world.
