The Statue Of Seto Lauluimä (song Mother) / Description

The monument of Seto Lauluimä was unveiled on August 2, 1986, during the fourth Setu Leelo Days. Before that, a monument was unveiled on the restored grave of Hilane Taarka in Obinitsa graveyard. The monument of Seto Lauluimä is dedicated to all famous song mothers in the region, especially to the memory of Hilane Taarka, Miko Ode and Irö Matrina. The sculptor Elmar Rebane made the model of the statue in 1980. Endel Taniloo supervised the making of the statue itself in the Tartu Workshop of "Ars" (it belonged to the Art Foundation of the ESSR). The statue is made of granite; it is three metres high, weighs nine tons and cost 10,000 roubles at that time.
On June 3, 1995, Obinitsa artificial lake was blessed with a procession led by a cross and the Seto Farmhouse Museum was opened. On the same day, memorial stones to other local songsters - Mast Hemmo (1900-1983), Lust Nasta (1893-1983), Luik Okse (1882-1958), and Vahvik Tepa (1893-1978) - were unveiled beside Seto Lauluimä statue.
