Tallinn unveils huge entertainment project

28.03.2006
The company Infortar plans to build a bold entertainment centre in Lasnamae to tie in with Tallinn's bid to be European Capital of Culture. The size of “Tallink City” would be 162,600 square metres, and the project could cost nearly EEK 5 billion (EUR 3.2 million). The complex would include a movie theatre, hotel, conference centre, trade centre, tropical water park, etc. Infortar’s board president, Ain Hanschmidt, said that the centre’s purpose is to attract a million tourists a year to Tallinn. He added that the centre would change the contingent of tourists as well; they hope to attract more cultural tourists. Tallink City will increase Tallinn’s chances to compete with nearby cities like Helsinki, Stockholm, Riga and St. Petersburg.
