Särevere Mõis ja Mõisapark / Apraksts

Särevere estate is located on Türi drumlins, not far from the River Pärnu. The first records of the estate date back to 1611 when Carl IX, the King of Sweden gave the village and the mill to Peeter Känfer. The history of the estate has been colourful. It has been owned by the Nierodts, von Uexkülls and von Schillings. The latter were the last owners of the estate.

The present wooden Manor House was built in the second half of 19 century (1). In 1860 an extension was added - a wooden porch with lace décor (2,3,5). It is a two-storey wooden building with relatively simple façade. Presently the first floor has classrooms for domestic science, the ground floor holds the library with public internet access, the museum of the school and the festive hall (4).

There is a vaulted cellar.

The manor ensemble includes a sawmill, a servants’ house, a cellar, a storage and a sauna. The Main Building is surrounded by a well-tended park.

In 1919 the status of Särevere estate changed and it become a state farm where the School of Domestic Economy was opened in 1924. In 1939 ‘dairy herd supervision’ as a new subject was added.

Since 1947 there has been a vocational school that has changed both its name and study focus. At this moment it is Särevere Higher School of Rural Economy where home economics, such as sewing and catering, but also agricultural subjects, car repairment, enterpreneurship, business administration, horse breeding and fur farming is taught.

The school has close ties with the successors of the last owner of the estate. They pay a visit to Särevere every year.
