MART KANGRO Talk To Me 2011
“And then there are colours. I use a lot of colours when I don’t have a tough working period. Then my socks are becoming really colourful. I can play with eight different colours and threads. But when my head is full of thoughts I use only one colour. Then I prefer to make it red. One sock totally red. I do not change. No stripes... Knitting is not an art for me...”
“Talk to Me” revolves around the problematics related to the performativity. On top of zigzagging across the osmotic line separating the character and the performer as well as humorously playing with the duality of addresser and addressee it tries to describe the microcosm of an individual. Performances in general are often seen as games with certain codes which seemingly stand apart from our everyday life. We often think of the time spent in the theatre as being in another fictional world. How much do we believe in what we see on stage? Who is talking to us? A character of a play or a person who happens to be on stage?
Possibly one of the most internationally acclaimed contemporary Estonian choreographers Mart Kangro focuses in his work on the meanings that the body and movements create and the concept of meaning in theatre as a semiotic time-space. Kangro has been engaged as a dancer at the Estonian National Opera. As a choreographer he has for a long time collaborated with Christina Ciupke and Thomas Lehmen. His works have been presented in more than 20 countries all over Europe and North America.
“Talk To Me” successfully premiered at the Helsinki Festival in August 2011 and has been presented also at the AugustDanceFestival in Tallinn.
