Urvaste Primeval Valley, Lake Uhtjärv / Описание

The primeval valley of Urvaste passes through a 10 kilometre stretch of the rural municipality of the same name from northwest to southeast and the depth of the valley at the church is 40 metres. The valley contains two lakes with picturesque shores, shrouded in legends - Uhtjärv and Lõõdla.
Lake Uhtjärv has cold water and is approximately 3 kilometres long (maximum depth of 27.6 metres). One of the many legends tells that the lake arrived at its current location as a cloud, drawn by a large black bellowing ox.
The name of the lake, denoting a sound made by water, came from a person who looked at it and asked: "Lake, why are you sighing?" On the high shore of Lake Uhtjärv used to be the ancient Linnamägi stronghold, also known as Nahalinn (Leather City). It was inhabited for a relatively brief time in the 1st and 2nd centuries. There are also a sacrificial well and a sacrificial stone.
