Tallinn needs better-quality tourists
Last year the number of foreign tourists in Estonia went up by 9 percent. Such strong growth is not expected for 2006 as the number of places of accommodation is limited and no new airline routes have been established. In 2004, 1.75 million foreign tourists stayed overnight in Estonia, rising to 1.9 million in 2005. The predicted growth for this year is 5 percent. Daisy Jarva, vice president of the Estonian Association of Travel Agents, claims that Estonia should not pay so much attention to the number of tourists but on bringing in more quality tourists, the buzzwords for whom are culture and history.
