Kallastu Festival 2011

08.04.2011
Kai Kallastu and Andrus Kallastu will be presenting their music at the Kallastu Festival featuring two concert programs.

"Spring Aria" will take the listeners into the tragic world of G. Verdi and G. Puccini, where the heroines, afflicted by their unfortunate lives, enter into a violent struggle for their principles. The soprano Kai Kallastu will be performing arias from Verdi's operas "Macbeth", "The Power of Fate", "Troubadour" and "Aida" as well as Puccini's "Manon Lescaut", "Madame Butterfly" and "Sister Angelica".

"Schönberg, Schönberg" will present fragments of the works of the Second Viennese School composers - Arnold Schönberg, Alban Berg and Anton Webern. Schönberg and his pupils were known for their uncompromising advocacy of quality music. They fought against the deterioration of music into mere entertainment and acted as important innovators in sound.

The concert will feature Alban Berg's "Four Pieces for Clarinet and Piano" Op 5, Anton Webern's "Six Songs" Op 14 for chamber orchestra and Arnold Schönberg's "Suite Op 29" (Webern's and Schönberg's works will have their Estonian premieres). Repoo Ensemble led by Andrus Kallastu.
