One of the most loved guests of Jazzkaar, Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek steps on these shores this spring with a new set and set-up including Indian percussion wizard Trilok Gurtu. Velvet voice Lizz Wright, representing the new generation of American jazz divas, and British club music legend The Brand New Heavies are to give their first ever concerts in Estonia. One of the architects of Nordic jazz and one of the true greats of modern jazz, Jan Garbarek, is a living saxophone legend. His style can easily be recognized out of a thousand players - his interpretation nuances and soundscape have that something special which cannot be replicated. Trilok Gurtu’s extensive percussion arsenal, Indian rhythms and world vision add a unique coloring to the band’s music. Jan Garbarek Group will perform in Nokia Concert Hall on April 28th at 20.00.
The warmth of her voice and her presence on stage have brought Lizz Wright (USA) unprecedented global success while already placing the 32 year old singer among the best of jazz vocalists. Signed by prestigious label Verve, she has released 4 successful albums. Last summer she took up extensive touring at Europe’s biggest festivals with Jazzkaar favourites Angelique Kidjo and Dianne Reeves. This is to be her first concert in Estonia. Concert of Lizz Wright at Jazzkaar 2012 takes place on April 27th at 22.00 in Nokia Concert Hall.
Acid jazz legend from London – The Brand New Heavies – has in a quarter of a century taken its name to worldwide fame. Being the pioneers of their style, the band has fused jazz, funk and hip-hop in a way only they can. The groups records have sold over 3 million – tracks like ”Never Stop”, ”Dream on Dreamer” and ”You Are The Universe” are just the beginning of a long list of hits. The Brand New Heavies will perform on April 27th at 22.00 at Rock Café.
