Fishery support goes to development of farm tourism

10.03.2006
Estonian Agricultural Registers and Information Board ARIB dispensed EEK 41.7 million of the EU aquaculture investment support for fish and crayfish farming in 2004-2005, but about 1/3 of it is being used for development of farm tourism. Tourism complex OU Kivi Forellipuuk has received EEK 3.4 million from ARIB, claiming that this money is invested in crayfish breeding. The company has built two hostels and one trout fishing pond. The manager of rest complex Anneli Kivikas says that they have dug six small crayfish ponds with a total area of 1,700 sqm. At the same time, manager of OU Astacus Rainer Maripuu says that they have dug four crayfish ponds and pipe-systems, 1,500 sqm each for the EEK 0.8 million subsidy.
