In November, the number of domestic tourists in accommodation establishments increased the most

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2012, 195,000 domestic and foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments. The number of domestic tourists increased by 12% and that of foreign tourists by 3% compared to November of the previous year.

In November, 73,000 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments or 8,000 domestic tourists more than in the same month of 2011. About a fifth of accommodated domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Tallinn, 15% in Pärnu county, 13% in Tartu county and a tenth in Ida-Viru county.

In November, 122,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments or 63% of the total number of tourists using the services of accommodation establishments. The number of tourists from Finland, which had been in decline during several previous months, increased 5% compared to November 2011. Also the number of tourists from Russia and Latvia increased (35% and 9%, respectively).

Fewer tourists than in November 2011 arrived from Sweden, Norway, Germany and Lithuania. Traditionally most of the foreign tourists stayed in Tallinn – 78% of the accommodated foreign tourists. 5% of the foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Pärnu county, the same amount in Tartu county and 4% in Ida-Viru county.

In November, 773 accommodation establishments with 17,000 rooms and 38,000 bed-places were available for tourists. The room occupancy rate was 42% and the bed occupancy rate was 32%. 37% of the total available beds located in large accommodation establishments (100 or more rooms), a quarter in medium-sized (30 to 99 rooms) and 38% in small (up to 30 rooms) accommodation establishments. 56% of the tourists, a third of domestic and 69% of foreign tourists preferred to stay in large establishments.

The number of tourists in accommodation establishments with up to 30 rooms increased 11% compared to November 2011, of which 15% in accommodation establishments with 1–9 rooms. The increase in the number of tourists in medium-sized and large accommodation establishments was lower – by 6% and 5%, respectively.

In November, the average cost of a guest night in an accommodation establishment was 31 euros and it was a euro more expensive than in the same month of 2011. The average cost of a guest night was higher in Tallinn than the national average.
