The theatre completed in 1911 (architect A. Jung, G. Hellat) that caught fire during World War II and was demolished in 1961 was located on the site of the present-day hotel and was one of the most remarkable examples of Jugendstil buildings in Estonia. On 23 February 1918, Estonia’s Independence Manifesto was read out on the balcony of the theatre.
