Saadjärve Linnamägi / Apraksts

Right next to Lake Saadjärv, you will find an ancient town that is also known as the Äksi Bed of Kalevipoeg. The oldest findings from the stronghold date back to the first centuries AD. The fort is 33.5 metres high and there is a moat at either end.
Interesting facts:
- According to an old folk tale, Kalevipoeg carried a great amount of sand to the place for a bed. Once he thought the bed was big enough, he led down on it for some rest. But the pillow was too small. Kalevipoeg threw it into a swamp and took a new one. The wrong pillow can still be seen in the swamp – in the shape of a small island on the eastern side of the swamp.
