The memorial statue of R. Kreutzwald (1803-1882), constructed in 1952, was the work of M. Hirv, M. Saks, A. Karro, A. Mellik and M. Port.Fr. R. Kreutzwald was a doctor and writer, renowned for the Estonian folk epic "Kalevipoeg" and a collection of Estonian folk tales which were based on ancient folk verse.
