Estonian Viking Age is a very fascinating stage in the history of our country. Learning more and more about this age is a fun and diverse adventure which takes us to paths never walked before.

Internal activity
The Great Kin of Kalev considers firsthand experience to be the best way for learning more about history. Role-play and historical re-enactment present excellent ways to get this experience. We study how the society worked and what life was like in the ancient days – both the everyday and military life. During the probation period a club member develops a character whom he will impersonate later. The member has to acquire ancient commodities and clothes, warriors must also acquire arms. We organise workshops where the experienced members of the club and external experts will share their knowledge and teach how to make commodities and jewellery/adornments, clothes and armour.

If a club member chooses to be a warrior, then he has to train himself in ancient fighting and at the end of the probation time he has to take a fighting exam.

External activity
In addition to internal events we also organise some public events. Best known from those are The Festival of Ancient World aka Mytofest and battlefield live action role-playing game called Jüriöö Ülestõus (The Upraising of George’s Night).

Together with Forestry Society of Estonia and Jõgevamaa and with various role-playing and historical re-enactment organisations we have initiated the foundation and development of Kassinurme Theme Park in Kassinurme Hills in Jõgevamaa.

From year 2009 we have co-operated closely with theme park Viikingite küla (Village of Vikings), where we have provided thematic entertainment for various age groups (from children to adults).
